Biotinylated Reagents
Biotinylated reagents are molecules that have been chemically modified to include biotin, a small vitamin (vitamin B7) that binds with exceptionally high affinity and specificity to avidin, streptavidin, or neutravidin proteins. This biotin–avidin system is a cornerstone of molecular biology and biochemical assays due to its strong, non-covalent interaction (Kd ≈ 10⁻¹⁵ M), making biotinylated reagents highly valuable in a wide variety of applications.
