A 50-micrometer section of an 11-day-old mouse embryo head was stained for PECAM1 and laminin, delineating the blood vessels in the developing brain and face. A high density of blood vessels is found in the tissue that is fusing to form the upper lip, below the two black slits that will become the nostrils.
