3-Azidopropylamine is a building block that can be used to derivatize carbonyl groups in the presence of activators (e.g. EDC, or DCC) or activated esters (e.g. NHS esters) with azide group though a stable amide bond for subsequent ligation to terminal alkynes via CuAAC reaction, strained cyclooctynes (e.g. DBCO or BCN compounds) via Cu-free click reaction or with phosphine-labeled molecules by a mechanism known as Staudinger chemistry.
