DNA / RNA Labeling

Products for chemical and enzymatic labeling of nucleic acids

Vector Laboratories offers you chemical and enzymatic labeling methods for nucleic acid labeling. When choosing a labeling method, consider the following:

  • Size and type of nucleic acid to be labeled
  • Type of label required for the application

For longer strands of nucleic acid (>100bp)  Use chemical multi-site labeling systems (PHOTOPROBE® Biotin). These methods:

  • Label the original template, not a copy
  • Introduce multiple labels along the length of the nucleic acid
  • Non-destructive — preserve the integrity of the nucleic acid

For shorter strands of nucleic acid (oligonucleotides, PCR primers, probes, etc.)  Use our enzymatic end labeling systems for efficient and specific incorporation of a tag.

Choose from the following labels:

  • Biotin — use this common and versatile label to leverage the vast array of avidin or streptavidin conjugates in a wide range of applications
  • Fluorescein — use this green fluorescent label, which is not found endogenously in biological systems, for either direct detection or as a hapten for detection with an antibody
  • Texas Red® — use this fluorescent label as you would fluorescein, but when red fluorescence is desired
